Petra Chess is a Montessori Teacher with the Pre-Primary 2 teaching team at the Northside Campus. Chess had previous experience working in a traditional preschool for over 5 years. She was drawn to the Suzuki School after witnessing the serene learning environment and the children actively learning at the Northside Campus. She was ready for a change from the traditional system of education and believed that the Suzuki Montessori approach offered more to children and more to her as a teacher who wanted to make a difference in children’s lives.
Ms. Chess joined the faculty in the summer of 2015. She finds teaching the Pre-Primary aged children to be very fulfilling and also fun! She likes that there is never a dull moment in a Pre-Primary Classroom. Based on her prior experiences, she is stilled amazed to see how independent and confident the Pre-Primary children become, and how much they can learn because of the prepared environment.
In Petra’s free time she likes to travel and try out new types of food. When she comes home, she works to recreate the culinary experiences from the trip. She prides herself on having a high success rate in her cooking endeavors! In addition, Petra is a hunter and fisherwoman! In particular, she likes to hunt for deer, and fish for catfish in farm ponds. Her catches become part of her culinary creations!
Chess is a graduate from The University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree in child and family studies with an emphasis on child development. As part of her studies, Ms. Chess worked in an Infant-Toddler classroom and a PreK classroom for her practicum experience. Chess is also a certified family life educator which provided her advanced training in parent education. Chess became a certified AMS Montessori Infant-Toddler Teacher in the Fall of 2016.
