The Suzuki School 2011 ITBS Results

Each year we administer the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) to all Kindergarten students in March so that parents may be given a baseline indication of their child’s mastery; the results also inform future instruction according to an analysis and assessment of the testing data. We have been administering this test for over 20 years and our children have always done very well -- the class summary for this year and last is detailed below:

Tests and Skills GE 2010 (grade equivalent) GE 2011 (grade equivalent)
Vocabulary  K.8 (8th month of Kindergarten  1.0  (1st month of First Grade
Word Analysis  1.0 (1st month of First Grade  1.5  (5th month of First Grade
Listening  K.8 (8th month of Kindergarten  1.1  (1st month of First Grade)
Language  K.8 (8th month of Kindergarten  1.1  (1st month of First Grade
Mathematics  K.8 (8th month of Kindergarten  1.1  (1st month of First Grade

These scores are all the more remarkable as our children are 9-12 months younger than the national norm group of Kindergarten students which comprises the ITBS scores control. As many of you know, over half of our Kindergartners turn five years after September 1, so they are significantly younger than other students to whom this test is administered.

These numbers hold special significance for us as this group of children began at Suzuki as the young toddlers to whom we gave the new materials and lessons three years ago.  It is clear to me that in implementing a child-directed philosophy as well as a method that emphasizes readiness and an individualized approach, we have allowed our children to realize more of their potential during this very crucial time of their lives.

We are very proud of both the Kindergarten teachers and their students!
