Saturday, October 1, 2016
-- 9–11:30 a.m. Family celebration with experiential learning stations
-- 11:30 a.m. 3 mile walk on the Beltline with Michelle Nunn, President & CEO, CARE USA (stroller friendly and flexible for families)
Every day, women and girls in developing countries walk nearly four miles – and often more – to get water, go to school, and go to the markets. It is a responsibility that falls mostly to girls, approximately 13 million, and takes them away from getting an education and building their future. After the water is obtained, it can weigh up to 40 pounds and the trek back home remains difficult on uneven terrain.
For more than 20 years of our nearly 70 years, CARE has been headquartered in Atlanta, helping girls, women and their families and communities around the world to overcome poverty. Suzuki families from all campuses are invited to join CARE’s Walk In Her Shoes, a family celebration in honor of International Day of the Girl. We will walk in solidarity with the girls and women who often walk miles each day. Each step we take is a step toward a more just future in which girls and women have access to education, loans to start businesses, sources of nutritious food and more.
