Ms. Karen is a Montessori Teacher at the Ponce City Market campus of the Suzuki School. Before embarking on her extensive career as a teacher, Ms. Karen once was in the Secretarial field. She soon discovered she had a special affinity and passion for education. She spent several years teaching in public schools from Kindergarten up to 5th grade before finding a home she loves at Suzuki.
Ms. Karen joined the Suzuki School in January 2005. Coming from working in public schools where most things are done for the child, especially young children, Ms. Karen was most excited that at Suzuki, this was not the case. The Montessori method combined with Suzuki philosophies, encourages teachers to guide the child to learn to do things for himself. She has found this leads to confident, capable, and happy children!
Ms. Karen works in Pre-Primary and has a special connection to this age group. Her daughter joined the Suzuki School and was placed in a Pre-Primary age group at the time, which has allowed her to experience Suzuki, not just from a teacher’s perspective, but as a parent as well. She has been amazed to see all her daughter is capable of with encouragement from her loving teachers and the right stimulation provided for her at the exact moment she was ready for it developmentally.
Originally from Brooklyn, New York, in her spare time Ms. Karen loves to dance, read, cook, and spend time with her family; she has two beautiful daughters.
A graduate from Baruch College in New York with a degree in Sociology, Ms. Karen completed the Infant-Toddler Training with the American Montessori Society and is now a Certified Montessori teacher.
