Diversity

Atlanta Montessori diversity2

The school began in 1976 as the “Suzuki International Learning Center” and in those early years first pledged to honor a wide diversity of cultures and life experiences. This focus has not waivered since that time and the focus has broadened to include diversity of thought through collaboration as well as diversity of life experiences, ethnicity, national origin and educational experiences.

You will find at Suzuki that approximately 30 percent of The Suzuki School's student body comes from an international or ethnic background. Throughout the year we celebrate many faith traditions from around the world, most generally determined by the families and staff in the classroom.

Our social studies curriculum, offered in the Pre-Primary, Primary and Kindergarten classrooms, is designed to foster an interest in and an awareness of children in other cultures and lands. Those Suzuki families who have experience and knowledge about another part of the world are encouraged to share with their child’s class the foods, holiday observances, costumes, music, art and stories from their country of origin.

A foreign language program begins in the Pre-Primary Program; children attend either a Spanish or French immersion class twice a week. In the Primary Program, we expand the foreign language program to include Mandarin Chinese in addition to either Spanish or French.
